Waste: We are committed to reducing municipal waste by setting ambitious but achievable targets for the future. UK households produce 26 millions tonnes of waste of which five million tonnes is packaging. We need to encourage consumers to re-use plastic bags and supermarkets and other retailers to cut down on unnecessary packaging.

The Climate: The Liberal Democrats have a green theme running throughout all of our policies because we are committed to setting targets to significantly reduce CO2 emissions and to make sure these are enforced. I believe that the UK can lead the way in tackling climate change and to ensure this the Government must be held to its obligations. I have recently worked with Ecotricity, the leading supplier of green energy, to better advance energy efficiency within Winchester.

Promote Cycling & Walking: Children walking to school get fit for life, and it looks after the environment. However it must be safe, so we will encourage and promote Safe Routes to School with calmed traffic, more cycle routes, safe pavements, good lighting and grown-ups on hand to conduct “walking buses”.
