MP for Winchester Mark Oaten and Liberal Democrat candidate for Meon Valley Liz Leffman are expressing continued concern over the number of Post Office closures in their local areas.
Recent proposals from the Post Office suggest that in place of the West Meon branch it will initiate an Outreach service operating for approximately eight hours a week.
Following this Mark and Liz have encouraged all constituents affected by these closures or who are dismayed by the impact upon the local climate to get involved in the consultation process with the Post Office to offer their views on the recent proposals.
Mark Oaten MP stated:
“I am aware that the repeated closures of Post Office branches inconvenience residents and harm our communities. My constituency has already seen a number of closures or changes to a reduced service and we don’t need to see another one.
“My hope is that we can bring about an agreement with the Post Office that is satisfactory to all and can help retain local character.
Liz Leffman added:
“Our main concern is that people in West Meon have a postal service that fits their needs, which is why we are acting to bring this consultation to the attention of people in the village.
