Mark Launches Green Energy Campaign

Winchester MP Mark Oaten has joined forces with green energy provider Ecotricity in a bid to clean up Winchesters carbon footprint.

Mark, along with Liberal Democrat Candidate for Winchester Martin Tod and Conservative Candidate Steve Brine changed their office premises over to Ecotricity and launched a campaign to raise awareness of the company’s activities across Winchester.

This comes following figures published last autumn which placed Winchester as the most polluting city in the UK. In an effort to clean up their act and lead by example the local politicians entered discussions with Ecotricity for a possible change.

Ecotricity is one of the leading providers of clean energy and unlike many of its rivals the company pours back the money made into creating more clean and efficient energy sources. The more people who switch to the company means more being spent on renewable energy production and so on reducing the carbon footprint yet further.

To help roll out the programme to Winchester residents Ecotricity are offering an exclusive start up pack. They offer a chance to sign up with Ecotricity at the same price as you are currently paying together with a free Energy Saving Pack, including energy saving light bulbs that could cut electricity bills by up to £74 a year.

Everyone present to launch the programme believes this is a chance to reverse the city’s negative image and Mark has challenged Winchester to take the initiative and make an improvement in time for the release of fresh figures next autumn.
