Winchester MP Mark Oaten has welcomed today’s announcement from Government that Micheldever will not be one of the chosen sites for an Eco-town. He has also written to Zurich and Eagle Star asking them to now formally abandon plans to develop the site.
The eco town was seen by many as a last ditch attempt from Eagle Star to build houses near Micheldever. There have been proposals hanging over the site for years and residents have remained opposed and this latest news will come as a great relief to them.
Commenting on the news Mark Oaten said:
“I’m pleased the government have rejected the Micheldever site. It was obvious to me that Eagle Star were trying to concrete green fields under the dubious heading of an eco town.
“But I’m today urging them to end the threat of development that has hung over this community for so long and finally abandon plans to try and develop in this area.
