Winchester MP Opposes Planning Application in Droxford

18th May 09

Mark Oaten has submitted his response to the Droxford Townsend planning application outlining the reasons for his opposition to the proposed development.

In a letter to the Head of Planning Management at Winchester City Council Mark outlined his views that the proposed development would, amongst other things, have a negative impact on the local conservation area and increase traffic on Northend Lane.

Mark also raised concerns surrounding the density of housing proposed and the increased burden the development would place on existing sewage systems which are reportedly already running at maximum capacity.

Furthermore Mark pointed out that the development has already been objected to by two key organisations in the Conservation Office and the Archaeology Office which highlights the feeling of many towards the potential impact of the proposals.

Mark Oaten said:

“I have carefully considered the proposals for the Droxford development application and this isn’t a knee jerk response. But I do think there are some serious issues which need to be raised and that’s why, on the balance of it, I have formally objected to the development.

“The dangerous turning onto the A32 would be compounded by the increased traffic on Northend Lane and I’m not convinced that the development would sit comfortably with the existing character of the houses surrounding it. For these reasons, and more, I do not support the application.
