Mark Oaten Raises Concerns With Hostel

Mark Oaten has called for the closure of the Elderfield hostel for ex-offenders following the recent murder and arrest of four individuals.

Mark Oaten MP stated:

“I am extremely concerned about the tragic murder of my constituent at the weekend. Although it is very early stages yet the arrests of four individuals from the local hostel will rightly raise concerns in the local community.

“For the ten years I have been the MP Elderfield Hostel for ex-offenders has had my full support and I know the majority of the community have felt happy with the hostel as its neighbour.

“Two years ago serious concerns were raised when a resident at the hostel committed a murder nearby. Again I was supportive and the community understood the very unusual circumstances behind that case.

“If these arrests were to lead to charges against individuals at Elderfield then with regret I think I would find it hard to continue to support the hostel remaining in my constituency.

“I don’t wish to make a knee jerk reaction but as the local representative for the community I have to put safety first. I will therefore be seeking urgent discussions about its failure when we have more clarity about the individuals concerned.
