Local MP Launches a Campaign on Road Safety in Owslebury

Winchester MP Mark Oaten has mounted a campaign to improve the safety of the Morestead Road and Longwood Road junction in Owslebury following last months major road accident.   

There has been a spate of accidents on the junction linking the Morestead and Longwood Roads.  Following the most recent accident involving a police car, Mr Oaten has met with local residents to initiate a campaign to improve the safety of this junction. 

At the meeting residents discussed a range of options including new slip road at the junction, flashing lights, more police speed checks and warning signs.   

In response to the talks with local residents Mr Oaten has also written to the Traffic Management and Road Safety Team at Hampshire County Council to request engineers to attend an on-site meeting to look at different options for the area.

“Safety is a priority and something that needs to be carefully examined."

“The residents of Owslebury have the right to feel safe on the roads in their community.  Those who I have spoken to are worried and concerned about the safety of this junction so we have a duty to bring about improvements."  

“I have contacted various stakeholders including the Traffic Management and Road Safety Team at Hampshire County Council.  I hope that we can work in partnership with residents to ensure that these accidents become a thing of the past."
