Mark Oaten has been appointed to the Business and Regulatory Reform Select Committee.
The Department for Business, Enterprise and Regulatory Reform (BERR) Select Committee is set up to examine the administration, expenditure and policy of the BERR. The committee deals with issues such as UK energy policy, the Government's relationship with Royal Mail, competition policy, business competitiveness and trade promotion.
Recent enquiries have included the non-departmental government body Companies House and possible anti-competitive behaviour in the UK’s energy market.
Mark Oaten stated:
“I am very pleased to be appointed to this committee. I hope it will give me the opportunity to address some issues of serious concern of particular importance given the current economic climate. The closure of Post Offices in the local area has been one issue which I have been particularly interested in and I think is worth questioning. I also hope to address energy prices and the interests of local businesses.
“I would call on constituents and local businesses to contact me if they have any issues they would like to raise.”
